Tiramisu may have been around since the 1960s, but lately, it feels like the internet has fallen in love with it all over again – and rightly so! This timeless, coffee-kissed dessert is finally basking in the spotlight it deserves.
As a self-confessed coffee lover, I have a soft spot for any caffeinated dessert and tiramisu has always held a special place in my heart. But let’s be honest—I can’t indulge in tiramisu every single day! So here’s where my cheeky little twist comes in: “Tiramisu” Overnight Oats. I know, I know – it’s not the real thing. Some of you may have even tuned out at the mention of “overnight oats” but hear me out: that’s the beauty of playful renditions.
This version captures the essence of tiramisu—the coffee, the cocoa, that indulgent creamy sweetness – while balancing it with the light tang of Greek yogurt in place of mascarpone. The result? A deliciously satisfying breakfast that feels just a little bit naughty, yet wholesome enough to enjoy every day.
INGREDIENTS (Serves 1)
Coffee Oatmeal Base
- 1 cup oatmeal
- 1 tsp cocoa powder
- A pinch of salt
- 1 shot of espresso (I mix 1 tsp of instant coffee with 2 tbsp of boiling water)
- 1 cup milk (you can use any milk you want)
- 1 tbsp maple syrup – can adjust to your preferred level of sweetness
Vanilla Greek Yogurt Topping
- 1 cup Greek Yogurt
- 1 tbsp maple syrup – can adjust to your preferred level of sweetness
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- Cocoa powder (to sprinkle)
HOW TO MAKE IT
- In a small container/bowl/jar, mix together all of the “Oatmeal Base” ingredients with a spoon until everything is well combined. Set aside in the fridge for 10-15 mins.
- In a separate bowl, mix together all of the “Topping” ingredients and stir until well combined – the brown/golden streaks of the maple syrup and vanilla essence should no longer be visible.
- Take the oatmeal out of the fridge and top with the vanilla Greek yogurt until the oatmeal base is fully covered on top. Do not mix. Cover with a lid and store in the fridge overnight.
- The next morning, top with a generous dusting of cocoa powder before consuming.

FAQs
- I’m too impatient to wait overnight – can I consume on the same day or within the same hour? Yes you can! Just use instant oats and use warm/hot milk. Avoid steel/rolled oats as they take longer to soften.
- Can I use other sweeteners instead of maple syrup? You definitely can. Feel free to use sugar, honey, or sugar substitutes like Stevia. I just think it tastes best with maple syrup!
- Can I use normal plain yogurt instead of Greek yogurt? Yes, you can. I just use Greek yogurt because it’s thicker (resembling the mascarpone usually put in Tiramisu), higher in protein, tangier, and lower in sugar.
